I am very much on record for my strong belief that a charity trustee is the best volunteer role you can do.
6 whole years ago I did a 3mins pitch on why charity trustee is the best volunteer role you can do. However, the world has moved on and I have got greyer … but I have got quicker! I now have a 60 seconds pitch on why being a trustee is the best volunteer role (see below).
It seems that three minutes is far too long for online content in 2026 so I decided (well, my colleagues encouraged me!) to update this video for this year’s Trustees’ Week. Jamie Oliver did his 30 minutes meals book, then a 15 minutes meal book, so I have recorded a new video making the pitch in just 60 seconds.
Using my ‘every expense spared’ approach I have attempted to make a concise and hopefully dynamic little video filmed in my office that explains why being a charity trustee is a great volunteer role and demystifying some of the misconceptions. I’ve tried to emphasise the team aspect of working on a board of trustees and the need for people of all sorts of different skills, knowledge and life experience to serve.
What do you think? Maybe a 30secs version next year?
